A Chittagong mobile court yesterday sealed off a pharmacy and sentenced the drugstore owner to a six-month imprisonment for illegally selling government medicine. Chittagong District Administration Executive Magistrate Ruhul Amin conducted the mobile court at the city’s Mirjarpool and Golpahar area. Magistrate Ruhul Amin said that Janakalyan Pharmacy was sealed off and its owner was sentenced to a six-month imprisonment for selling government medicines. “Anik Barua is the owner of Janakalyan Pharmacy. Runa Barua, wife of the pharmacy owner and senior staff nurse at Faujdarhat Chest Disease Hospital used to supply the government medicines from the government hospital. The people used to purchase government medicines from the drugstore,” said the Magistrate, adding that they were going to formally lodge a complaint with health secretary against the corrupt nurse. Besides, the mobile court fined six other drugstores with Tk 32,000 in total for selling unapproved, date-expired and physician sample medicines.
