Preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja, highest religious festival of the Hindu community, are going in full swing on along with the arrangements to set up 402 puja mandsps in the district and city. Of the total, 67 mass and personal mandaps will be set up in the city.
However, this year 44 puja mandaps would be set up in Boalia thana area, 10 puja mandaps would be set up in Rajpara thana area, six puja mandaps in Motihar thana area and seven puja mandops would be set up in Shah Mukhdum thana area of the city. “Preparations are now in full swing and we expect to observe the puja with special grandeur,” said Anil Kumar Sarker, vice-President of Bangladesh Puja Ujjapan Parishad.
He further said that about 100 idol maker (Paul) groups of Rajshahi are now busy making idols for about 402 mandaps and they have already completed 80 per cent works of making, dressing and decorating the idols.
“Now we have reached the last stage of making idols, but due to hostile weather we could not do any works in the last three days. But now the weather condition has come in our favour; that is why, we have started again making idols with full sagging,” said Ganesh Paul, an idol maker of the city.
According to Rajshahi city and district police, they have taken special security measures for the city and all upazilas under Rajshahi on the eve of Durga Puja for smooth and peaceful celebration of the puja.
