Annual boat race in Khulna Oct 10

The traditional boat race, popularly known as ‘Nouka Baich’, will be held on the Rupsha River east side of Khulna city on October 10 afternoon. Nagar Samajik o Sangskritic Kendra (NSSK), Khulna, will arrange the 10th annual competition with a view to promote the Bengali culture and heritage. The race will be sponsored by telecommunications operator Grameenphone. A total of 26 teams from Khulna, Satkhira, Narail, Faridpur and Magura districts will take part in the three-phase competition said general secretary of NSSK Moniruzzaman Rahim. The competition will begin at 2pm from Custom Ghat point (Kheya ghat) and will end at Khanjahan Ali Bridge (Rupsha Bridge) point, he added. Lawmaker of Khulna-4 constituency SM Mostafa Rashidi Suja is expected to inaugurate the contest and will distribute prizes among the winners as chief guest said Mollah Maruf Rashid, president of the organisation.
Lawmaker of Khulna Sadar constituency Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), also chief patron of the NSSK Md Moniruzzaman, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Abdus Samad, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Khulna Range SM Moniruzzaman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna, also chief coordinator of the boat race competition Md Mostafa Kamal will present as special guests, he added.
In this regard, a preparatory meeting chaired by Mollah Maruf Rashid was held on Saturday at its office. NSSK advisor Sheikh Ashraf-uz-zaman, Sheikh Mosharaf Hossain, vice-president Al Zamal Bhuiyan, Akhter Uddin Pannu, Golam Rabbani Bhuiyan, Saifur Rahman Sayeed, Shikder Abdul Khaleque, Md Salahuddin Siddiqi Helal, Moniruzzaman Rahim were present in the meeting.
