DSCC to allocate tobacco control budget

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is set to allocate budget for controlling tobacco, said the DSCC Chief Executive Officer Mostafizur Rahman. He has expressed his commitment to allocate budget for tobacco control and create tobacco-free model ward under DSCC, says a press release.
The commitment came from a meeting titled Tobacco Control Law implementation progress and future action organised by DSCC to make the tobacco control programme more dynamic on Monday at the DSCC Mayor Mohammad Hanif seminar room.
Speakers at the event said that tobacco is one of the main and preventable causes of premature death. According to Tobacco Atlas-2018, 1,60,200 people die for tobacco-related diseases each year, they opined.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) has been implementing tobacco control programme for a long time besides other social development activities and implement various tobacco control. In order to implement the Tobacco Control Act in Dhaka city, DAM has been implementing various tobacco control activities with Dhaka South and Dhaka North City Corporations since 2013. Dhaka South City Corporation has initiated various measures to control tobacco out of those developing tobacco-free guideline was one of the vital initiatives.
To measure the progress of the tobacco-free guideline and implementation of tobacco control law, DSCC has organised the discussion meeting with the support of Dhaka Ahsania Mission and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
