While Afif Hossain Dhrubo did not cross the tag of age-group cricketer, Rajshahi Kings made all surprised by fielding this tiny boy in BPL. Inspired by Rajshahi Kings captain Darren Sammy, Dhrubo always kept Kings ahead by showing his outstanding performance with ball.
Dhrubo, thereafter, did not look back as he has been playing at domestic cricket with the same pace of the senior players. He played 17 matches in First Class, whereby he showed his batting prowess by hitting four centuries. The left-handed batsman played 27 List-A matches, in where he struck five half-centuries though he is yet to clout any century.
He meanwhile represented Bangladesh in the shorter format of cricket what he played against Sri Lanka in February 2018 at home turf.
The 19-year-old all-rounder is playing BPL for the third time. This year he already played a match for Sylhet Sixers, who engendered fears among the BPL franchise teams by roping in Australian hard-hitting batsman David Warner.
The Sixers authority put the charge of the Sylhet Sixers on Warner’s shoulder as this global-trotting player has ample experience to lead the team from the front. He was deputy of Australia under the captaincy of Steven Smith before being suspended from international cricket for a year because of the ball-tempering scandal that rocked the cricketing world.
Yesterday the promising lad practiced together with the team mates for the next match against Chittagong Vikings. He spoke after their training session at the national cricket academy ground.
“The matches I will play in the BPL there will have my personal target there. As per it, I will play a match at a time and try to finish it by playing good cricket,” said Afif Hossain Dhrubo.
“While I will get down, I can bat as per the situation of the match. I can give something better for the team. There are bowling and fielding there. I’ll try to bowl well along with the fielding,” Afif told. He said that they will move forward from the lesson what they gathered from their opening match though he didn’t win it.
“We did not make enough score in the first match. Therefore, we fought hard. We’re taking it as a positive side,” he said.
“We want to do well in the next match keeping the last match in mind. We have plans to move forward in that way,” he maintained.
When asked how they are influenced by captain David Warner, Afif said, “He is always involving in all of the team whether it is in practice or hotel. He is cutting fun with us all. He is keeping all united that helps the team much.”
“As Warner is a batsman, there are many more things of batting to learn from him. How he utilizes the batting power play and how he manages to compile big innings on top-order-actually these things are required to learn from him.”
“The talk we held that has been made mostly on the team. But I talked with him how can I help the team with bat and bowl and what will be my role in the team,” he responded to another query.
