Batsmen urged to change mindset to counter pitch enigma: Akram

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) had its share of controversy in opening week largely due to the DRS system and the wicket, both of which remains a source of disturbance. While the DRS system was not sufficient enough to make the whole things controversy-free, the wicket was not well prepared to host a quality T20 match in which spectators wants high-scoring thriller or at least some good contest between bat and ball.

While the ultra edge system is expected to be in operation from Friday to support the DRS system and things looked set to be OK,  it is not the case when it comes to wicket unless there is a miracle.

The wicket had always been a mystery when it comes to Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and it seemed to remain that way as it is observed that day games are not getting enough runs on the board.

Former national captain Akram Khan believe cricketers need to play with separate mentality to get the most out of the day games as well as from the games played at night.

“The wicket is certainly better than the last time,” Akram told reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.

“The important thing that drew our attention more is that weather is playing a big part on the behavior of the wicket,’’ he said.

“In day time the wicket remains dry and the ball is getting gripped and so our batsman are not at all comfortable. While at night there are dewdrops and it turns out to be advantageous for the batsman,’’ he said.

“The mentality of the cricketers should change and operate along with the days requirements but you have to play with one kind of attitude in night and another in day,” he said.
