Chittagong Kikings fast bowler Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi on Tuesday said that they are looking forward to play in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after overcoming the hurdles of the preliminary phase.
Rahi also said that they are all confident of their team and its balance following their first match victory against the holders Rangpur Riders.
“Since the last two editions of the BPL T20 Tournament, Chittagong Vikings were rock-bottom in the BPL points-table. But this year it will be changed. We all have much confidence as a player and team. Our expectation is of playing in the BPL final,” said Abu Jayed Rahi.
“Initially, it did not deem that the team is not so balanced. But it has been seemed after winning the first match the team has a good balanced. Our confidence got a big boost after winning the first match,” Rahi told media after their pre-match day training session yesterday.
“Every team has a target to pick two-three wickets within the first six overs. We could have done it. I claimed a wicket following Robert Frylinck’s double strikes in an over. Scoring is too tough after falling four wickets in power play. It seemed to me that we are going ahead,” he added. Citing the names of Mushfiqur Rahim, Ahmed Shehzad and Sikandar Raza, the paceman said that the trio has ability to triumph the team single-handedly what they did on many occasions not only domestic circuit but also international arc.
“We’ve two-three cricketers in the team who could do many things single-handedly. As for example, we’ve Mushfiq bhai, who alone made Bangladesh victorious in many international matches. So, we’ve hopes on him,” he said.
“We’ve Ahmed Shehzad, who clattered fifty from 17 balls. It would be better if he could play his own game. Again, we’ve Sikandar Raza, who is a good batsman. Of course, we could be able to make big score if they could player better cricket,” he added.
The talk around the wickets was being held since the initial match especially day’s first match, Rahi believes that the situation in the opening match will be changed with the progress of the outings.
“Big score has not been done as it was the first match for the team and the first match of the day. But 179 had been scored in the second match of the day. I think, our bowlers really bowled well,” he said.
“It feels me good. This good feeling is not only for me but also for Sylhet dwellers. After a long gap of times, players from Sylhet are playing for the national team. Even many players of Sylhet are playing in different teams in BPL,” he told.
