Two youths get 14 yrs in prison

A tribunal yesterday sentenced two young men to 14 years' imprisonment for raping an underage girl in Dharmapasha upazila. The convicts are Apon Uddin, 33,  and Masud Miah, 35, of Chakiachapur village. The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each and in case of failure to pay the fine, they will have to sever one more year in jail. According to the prosecution, the convicts abducted the girl on March 16, 2006 and raped her. Later, a case was filed in this connection.

After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal M Zakir Hossain handed down the verdict, acquitting two accused as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.
