Law-enforcers yesterday detained five foreign nationals from the galleries of the Sher-e-Bangladesh National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur on the third day of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) sixth-edition for their involvement in ‘spot fixing’. Later, a mobile court fined them Tk 4,000 each and advised them to return to their countries. The five were detained red-handed when they were spot fixing through their mobiles while sitting at galleries. All of the detainees are Indian nationals, hailing from the Haryana State.
They detainees later handed over to the executive magistrate of the mobile court. Two other persons were held for entering the stadium without ticket and helping another to enter into the gallery. The mobile court led by Imrul Hasan, senior assistant secretary and executive magistrate, Dhaka Metropolitan area, held a summary trail and fined the bookies Tk 4,000.00 each before releasing all them, asking them to return to their country.
“A racket of bookies has been arrested by law-enforcing agency today. The law-enforcers also seized six mobile phones from their possession. They were fined a total of Tk 20,000,” said Imrul Hasan.
“A man was fined Tk 500.00 for another offence and one was jailed for 11 days,” Hasan told The Independent. “The bookies had legal documents to travel to Bangladesh. We have directed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to not allow them to enter into the stadium during the BPL,” he added.
Earlier, a total of 16 bookies were arrested, including 15 on the opening day and one on the second day of the Twenty20 blockbuster tournament.
