Simultaneously, he warned of tough action against the violators of the act saying, “The licence of the businessmen or stakeholders found involved in using polythene bags will be cancelled.”
A week-long drive against polythene bags along with the awareness programme will begin from October 25 this year, Azam said.
He urged all patriotic people to extend all out cooperation to the concerned ministries and departments, district administration and members of law enforcement agencies in this regard. Terming the jute products as environment-friendly, the state minister said consumption of locally produced and environment-friendly jute would increase after proper implementation of the act. Due to pragmatic steps of the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, country’s jute farmers have been benefitted this year.
