The death toll of Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims from the tragic stampede in Saudi Arabia’s Mina has now reached 51, UNB reports quoting Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Moshi.
The envoy also told BBC Bangla that still 130 other Bangladeshi pilgrims remain missing. “Efforts are on to find out the missing Bangladeshis,” he added.
Golam Moshi said officials of his embassy are taking information about the missing people by visiting different hospitals. The Saudi authorities are also publishing photos of the dead pilgrims in phases at Mujassam near Mina.
The embassy has asked the relatives of the missing Bangladeshi pilgrims to go there to check the photographs.
Saudi Arabia has put the official death toll from the shocking incident on September 24 at 769 though some foreign diplomats claim the actual number to be a thousand. Over a lakh people from Bangladesh went to Saudi Arabia to perform hajj this year.
