UNB

Miscreants hacked former chairman of Power Development Board (PDB) Khijir Khan to death at his Khanka Sharif (gathering place of followers) at Gudaraghat in the capital’s Madhya Badda area yesterday evening, reports UNB. Police recovered the body of Khijir Khan, 66, also a so-called pir, after 8:30pm. Hailing from Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia, he was also the president of Dhaka-based Kushtia Samity. Khijir Khan served as the PDB chairman from 1996 to 2001.
Deputy commission (Gulshan) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mushtaque Ahmed said a group of 6-7 people came to visit Khijir Khan around 7pm when he asked the caretaker of the house to let them enter and sit at the ‘Rahmania Khanka Sharif’. The Khanka Sharif is situated on the first floor of the six-storey house. He used to live on the 2nd floor of the building which he owned.
However, the gangsters tied two women and a child who were at the khanka at the ablution place. They stormed into the 2nd floor and tied Khijir’s daughter-in-law and other family members, he said quoting the victim’s daughter-in-law. Meantime, the family members managed to untie them and rushed to the khanka on the 1st floor only to see Khijir lying slaughtered at the ablution place around 8:30pm.
They also found the two women and child lying tied near the victim. The motive behind the killing could not be known yet, the DC said, adding that it could not be ascertained after investigation.
