Cops wife found dead in capital
UNB, Dhaka
Police recovered the body of a police officers wife from Bhatara area in the city early Friday. The deceased was identified as Mina Akhter, 25, wife of Sohel Rana, assistant sub-inspector of Bhatara Police Station.
Al-Imam Rajon, sub-inspector of Bhatara Police Station, said that Sohel Rana and his wife Mina used to live in a rented house in Soulmaid area.
Being informed by Sohel Rana that Mina had committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan following a scuffle with her husband, a team of police went to the house and found her body lying on the bed around 3 am, said the SI.
Later, the body, which bore injury marks on its neck, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
RMG worker found dead
UNB, Gazipur
Police recovered the body of a female garment worker from a septic tank of a house at Bhauraid Uttarpara area in the city yesterday morning.
The deceased was Afroza, wife of Shahjahan Chowdhury and an employee of Shyamolu Garments in Salna area.
Locals spotted the body in the septic tank in the morning and informed police, said Samir Kumar, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Later, they recovered the body.
Police suspected that Afrozas husband Shahjahan, worker of a steel factory, might have strangled her to death and then hide the body inside the septic tank. Locals said that the couple used to lock into quarrel as Shahjahan suspected that his wife had an extra-marital affair.
Bamboo yard catches fire
UNB, Dhaka
A fire broke out at a bamboo yard in front of East West University in Merul Badda here on Friday night.
Nine firefighting units rushed to the spot soon after the fire ensued around 12:31 am, said Babul Mia, an operator at Fire Service and Civil Defense Control room.
The reason behind the incident could not be known yet. The fire was burning till filling of this report around 1:25 am.
Motorcyclist killed in road crash
UNB, Dhaka
A motorcyclist was killed as a speeding truck hit his vehicle in front of Matshya Bhaban in Shahbagh area on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Md Tajul Islam, 43, the driver of an ambulance of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
The truck hit the motorcycle at the place around 11pm, leaving its rider Tajul and pillion rider Abu Hanif, 40, severely injured.
Later, both the injured were taken to the DMCH where the doctor declared Tajul dead, said Inspector Bacchu Mia of hospital police outpost.
Teenage girl raped in Cumilla
UNB, Cumilla
A 16-year-old girl was reportedly raped by the employer of her father at Krishnapur village in Lakhsham upazila on Thursday night.
Police arrested Tajul Islam Majumdar, 42, son of late Abu Taher Majumdar of the village, soon after the victims father filed a case against him on Friday.
The girls father works as a watchman at Tajuls fish enclosure in the village and staying in a tin-shed house near it with his family, said Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Laksham Police Station.
On Thursday night, Tajul took out the girl from their house around 10:30 pm while her father was out of home and her mother was sleeping inside. Later, Tajul violated the girl there, said the OC quoting the case statement.
