Former football legend Kabir passes away

Kabir Ahmed, a former legendary footballer of the then Pakistan and East Pakistan team died of old age complications on Thursday night at local hospital. He was 88.

He left behind one son and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death. His Namaj-e-janaza was held at Taqwa Masjid in Dhanmondi before laying to rest at Azimpur graveyard.

Kabir Ahmed, who hails from Barishal, played in Dhaka senior Division Football League from 1955 to 1965. He made his Dhaka league debut in 1955 in favour of Dhaka Wanderers. Next year he switched over to Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club before calling it a day in 1965.  He got the then Pakistan colour in 1961 and with a short period he became vice-captain when he represented the Pakistan team in Tokyo Olympics in 1964.

Mohammedan sporting Club, Sammiloto Krira Paribar and Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association mourned the death of Kabir Ahmed.
