Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday alleged that their arch rival, the BNP, had nothing to do but lodge complaints with foreigners after their debacle in the just held 11th parliamentary elections on December 30. “BNP could not conduct any vigorous anti-government movement in the last 10 years. The party failed to do so even after its chief Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment. So they have nothing left to do other than lodge complaints with foreigners,” he said.
Quader was talking to reporters at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue office before holding a joint meeting with the party’s departmental secretaries and with the leaders of its different associate bodies.
Criticizing BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for complaining to foreigners after the general elections, Quader described Fakhrul was a “failed politician”.
He made the remarks a day after a three-member BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul, met US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller and discussed various issues regarding the December 30 national election.
During the meeting, BNP provided Miller with documents, including paper cuttings and video clips, on election irregularities and vote fraud.
The Awami League leader, however, thanked the leaders and workers of BNP and Oikyafront for taking part in the December 30 polls.
He claimed that the Awami League was now stronger and more united than any time before. “I have worked hard to make our organization stronger, dynamic and united and all our party leaders and workers worked for the party victory in the December 30 general elections,” he added.
