Afzalur Rahman Sinha, chairman of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) governing council, said on Monday that they have fixed the rate and grade of local and foreign players for the upcoming edition of the BPL Twenty20 competition.
“Today we held a preliminary discussion on BPL’s various issue, where we discussed about date of lottery, rate of ticket, local and foreign player’s rate and grade, along with regulation. We’ve fixed a probable date for lottery, which will be held on October 31,” said Afzalur Rahman.
“We’ve categorized players into three including A, B and C beside the Icon players. Along with that, we have set the rate for foreign player, which has been estimated minimum US$ 30,000 and maximum US$70,000. And the rate of local player has also been estimated minimum Tk five lakh (5,00,000) and maximum Tk 35 lakh (35,00,000),” Sinha told media at Court de la ACME in the capital.
The governing council chairman said that they have also fixed the schedule of the BPL-3 to be rolled onto the ground on November 21, two days after the opening ceremony.
“Our ground work is ready. So, we could start the BPL at any day. We earlier announced the schedule of the opening and the start of the BPL. But this time we have given a probable date of the opening ceremony and start of the tournament on November 19 and 21,” Rahman revealed.
“We are being considering international schedule, player’s availability, domestic competition of other countries to organise the BPL. But the schedule may be delayed one day due to Zimbabwe series. Actually we are being adjusting everything to start the tournament,” he pointed out.
“We’ll also form a technical committee for the tournament as there are many more technical affairs involving with players. We’ll form the committee on October 7. We’ll inform all you about it after holding the meeting at the same day,” Sinha, who is also a director of the board, informed.
Director Khaled Mahmud Sujon, who was given the responsibility with director Akram Khan to fix the rate, grade and categorisation of local and foreign players, said that they are hopeful of getting players from West Indies, Pakistan, England and Zimbabwe.
“It’s not happened from any apprehension. At that time, Sri Lanka will tour in New Zealand, Australia will also be busy alongside South African players will also be busy in domestic competition. And India didn’t allow their players to play in foreign tournament. But we’re hopeful to get players from other countries except these four countries. We’ll try to get their grade-2 players if they are free from national commitment,” Khaled Mahmud said.
“We’ve already got some names of players, who sent their documents seeking their keen interest to play in the BPL-3. Thereafter, we will see those, who are interested to play the BPL after categorising,” Sujon also said.
“Inserting a provision we’ve devised a plan, where we wanted to keep three U-19 players in each team. But they’ll play too many matches ahead of their World Cup. They may not get chance to play in BPL. But we’ll try to keep them at least one player for each team,” he added.
“Bangladesh is alright from the prospect of security. There is nothing to prove to bring others in Bangladesh. Killing of foreigner is a discrete matter. There is no link of militancy or terrorism with it,” I H Mollick, member secretary of BPL governing council, said.
“The way we got response from the agent outside of the country that’s absolutely normal. At this moment, it should not tell anything,” Mollick told in response to a query.
