Left arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain Rubel forced Rangpur follow-on, claiming six wickets as Dhaka Division closed in on victory after the completion of the third day’s game in the second round of the National Cricket League yesterday at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.
Rajshahi Division also sensed a victory against Chittagong Division despite conceding a first innings lead at Shaheed Kamruzzman Stadium in Rajshahi.
Marshal Ayub hit 107 runs to prevent his side Dhaka Metro from following-on against Khulna Division at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Elsewhere at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna, match between Sylhet and Barisal is heading towards a draw after Sylhet’s opener Imtiaz Hossain’s century.
Dhaka vs Rangpur
Dhaka imposed a follow-on on Rangpur after Mosharraf Hossain Rubel snapped up six for 82 to bowl them out for 248 in the first innings. Rubel then again scalped two for 13, helping his side to leave Rangpur 55 for three in the second innings.
Rangpur still need 146 runs to force Dhaka bat on for the second time after they amassed 449 runs in the first innings thanks to a 111-run from Nadif Chowdhury.
Nasir Hossain only offered some resistance with 71 runs but couldn’t help the side avoid the follow-on, largely due to the inept batting from the middle order. Suhrawardi Shuvo was the other notable scorer with 45 while Liton
Das earlier on second day made 51.
Neither Liton nor Nasir could stand tall in the second innings. While the former was out on 14, the later was dismissed on naught. Suhrawardi Shuvo and Naeem Islam are batting on 16 and three runs respectively in Rangpur’s bid to avoid the innings defeat in Tier-1 game.
Rajshahi vs Chittagong
In Tier-1 game, left arm spinners’ duo Taijul Islam and Sanjamul Islam shared six wickets between them to bowl Chittagong out for 181 runs in the second innings, which left them in needing just 257 runs to win.
Rajshahi ended the third day on 98 for no loss and required another 159 runs to seal the deal. Junaid Siddique was batting on 53 with Nazmul Hossain Shanto on 45.
Tamim Iqbal failed to impress once again as Chittagong floundered right from the start. After being out on 0 in the first innings, Tamim made just 4 in the second innings. His fellow opener and brother Nafis Iqbal made just 6 to leave the middle order dig in deep which they failed to do.
Sylhet vs Barisal Division
Opener Imtiaz Hossain hit 127 as Sylhet reached a comfortable 363 for seven on the third day after Barisal piled up a mammoth 527 in the first innings thanks to a double ton from Mosaddek Hossain Saikat in Tier-2 game.
Zakir Hossain contributed 89 while Rajin Saleh was unbeaten on 55. With a day to play, the match is heading towards a draw.
Dhaka Metro vs Khulna
Marshall Ayub scored 107 runs but it was not enough to help Dhaka Metro avoiding followed-on in a Tier-1 game against Khulna . They were all out for 271 in the first innings and still trailed by 184 runs after the completion of third day’s game. Khulna’s Mehdi Hasan Meraj was the main architect to force Metro to bat for second time as he took six for 61 in first inings.
Ayub was aptly supported by Sharifullah who made an unbeaten 66. After the team was reeling on a meager 78 for four on the day two, Ayub’s century gave Metropolis a ray of hope to save the match. The rain also came as blessing for them as it lost some valuable times of Khulna in their bid to win the game.
