Ershad slams AL

Ershad slams AL
Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman H.M. Ershad

Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman H.M. Ershad yesterday said that the ruling Awami League government had failed to ensure security of common people including foreign nationals. He said that the main prerequisite of democracy was to ensure safety and security of people and property but the ruling Awami League had failed to carry out its constitutional duty.
“Common people as well as foreign nationals are not safe in the country now. Two foreign nationals have been killed within a week. Such incidents of killing have tarnished the image of the country in the international arena,” said Ershad, who is also Special Convoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Ershad was addressing a press conference at his Banani office in the capital. “Foreign buyers are now unwilling to come to our country owing to the deteriorating law and order situation. Such matters may cause trouble in our garment sector in future. Such a situation has been caused due to absence of good governance and a culture of impunity. There is no good governance in the country. Democracy is meaningless without good governance,” he stressed.
Drawing attention to an alleged bullet injury in Gaibandha, Former President Ershad said, “Earlier, we have seen that children are not safe under this government. The killing of Rakib, Rajon and Rabiul are proof. Even the child Suraiya who was in her mother’s womb was injured by a bullet. I then protested it and formed a human chain. I demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.”
The JP leader demanded control of ruling party cadres, that those guilty be arrested and the administration freed of party influence. He claimed that an unbearable situation had been created in the country owing to political interference in administration. He called upon the government to improve the law and order situation in the country.
“I would tell the government to improve the law and order situation in Bangladesh. It does not need much budgetary allocation. Political will is necessary in this regard,” he emphasized.
