The Sangeet-Abayab Sitar-Sarod workshop, conducted by exponents Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar (Sarod) and Pandit Kushal Das (Sitar), has been extended until tomorrow . Bengal Foundation and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) jointly organised the workshop titled ‘Sangeet-Abayab’, which was supposed to conclude yesterday. The workshop focuses on the application and interpretation of Indian classical music in Sitar and Sarod, and includes discussion, lecture-demonstration and teaching sessions. The workshop is being held at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy premises at Segun Bagicha in the city.
Cultural Affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest on October 3 at the National Art Gallery auditorium in BSA. Besides the artistes, Bengal Foundation chairman Abul Khair, Bengal Foundation director general Luva Nahid Choudhury, Music, Dance and Recitation Department director of BSA Sohrab Uddin, and BSA director general Liaqat Ali Lucky also spoke on the occasion.
To note, Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar (born 17 May 1961) is an Indian sarod player and pupil of Bahadur Khan. Majumdar is one of the most popular and celebrated modern sarod players.
Kushal Das is an Indian musician who plays Sitar and Surbahar. He is a grade A musician at All India Radio and Doordarshan.
The workshop will be held from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. l
