Killing of college student protested

Protesting the killing of a college student and demanding immediate arrest of the prime accused, family members, teachers and students of Govt Ananda Mohan College formed a human chain in front of the college yesterday morning.
Criminals beat and stabbed college boy Ali Hossain, 18 to death at Konapara Sluice gate area in Sadar upazila here early Wednesday.
Ali, son of Arab Ali, passed HSC examinations from Government Ananda Mohan College this year and had been preparing for admission test.
The protesters said already six days have elapsed after the killing; but the prime accused in such a sensational case is yet to be arrested.
“We have urged the police administration repeatedly to arrest the killers to bring them to book; but unfortunately they are not arrested as yet”, one protester said.
They also gave a 7-day ultimatum to the police and district administration to arrest the prime accused. If the deadline misses, they would go for tougher movement, warned the speakers.
Among others, local Char Sirta union parishad chairman Saifuddin Ahmed Bakul, union parishad member Mujibur Rahman, freedom fighter Basir Uddin and BCL president of Ananda Mohan College unit Rakibul Islam Rakib addressed the rally.
Earlier, protesting the killing, village people in their hundreds also brought out a procession and held a rally at Konapara on Thursday afternoon.
A  gang of criminals allegedly, led by one Rubel Miah, 25, a motorbike driver of the same village, beat up and stabbed Ali over return of Tk 500, which Rubel borrowed from Ali last year. Ali died on the spot, police sources said.
Victim’s father lodged a case accusing 10 people, including Rubel and his father Md Ainuddin, of their alleged involvement in the killing.
Police arrested Rubel’s father Ainuddin Wednesday evening. Police also arrested another accused in the case Ramzan Ali, 30, of Konapara on Friday.
The arrestees were produced before a Mymensingh court that sent them to jail, police said.
Rubel and other members of the gang went into hiding soon after the incident, police sources added.
Separate police teams are raiding different areas of Sadar and its adjacent upazilas to arrest the prime criminals, said Md Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station.
