Students get books in festive mood

Primary and secondary level students got new textbooks in festive mood in Rajshahi,Sylhet, Barishal and Rangpur cities yesterday, the first day of the New Year 2019. Book distribution ceremony has been arranged in every school to handover books among the students. Our Correspondent adds from Rajshahi: AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation yesterday morning inaugurated the “Textbook Festival Day” by handing over books to the students of various schools of the city at Rajshahi Collegiate School.

Presided over by SM Abdul Kader, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi, Abdul Kalam Azad, Chairman of Rajshahi Education Board, Dr Nurzahan Begum, headmistress of Rajshahi Collegiate School were present marking the programme.

Addressing the students, Liton said the government has been distributing free textbooks to both primary and secondary students since 2010 to solve the textbook crisis.

It is learnt, this year the government will distribute 14,11,558 free new textbooks among 3,05,636 primary level students and 35,88,189 free new textbooks among 3,44,006 secondary level students of various educational institutes under Rajshahi Zilla.

BSS adds: Department of Primary Education (DPE) also organised a divisional, district and metropolitan level book distribution function at Primary Teachers Training Institute conference hall in the city.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader addressed the ceremony as chief and special guests respectively with Divisional Deputy Director of DPE Abul Kalam Azad in the chair. The meeting was told that more than 23.57 lakh students of primary schools got around 1.11 crore books in the division.

Sylhet correspondent says: Textbook Festival Day-2019 began in Sylhet through distributing new books among the primary school and madrassa students.

A total of 2,50,0000 pieces of new text books are being distributed more than five lakh students under 13 upazilas including Sylhet city corporation areas.

On the other hand our Barishal correspondent says, over 23 lakh primary and secondary level students of Barishal division got about two crores free books yesterday on the occasion. DD primary and secondary office confirmed that the books were sent to 8,974 educational institutes with in December 29 and all the student received books.

Acknowledging the fact SM Faruk, DD primary education of Barishal division said that they have sufficient stock in reserve.  

In the city book festival of primary level started on Mukul Smrriti Primary School premises in the  morning.

BSS adds from Rangpur:  Over 26.42 lakh students of 18,184 primary and secondary level educational institutions got 3.95 crore pieces of new textbooks today while celebrating the National Textbook Distribution Festival-2019 on the New Year’s Day in Rangpur division.
