War crimes suspect held in Noakhali

Police arrested a man from Maijdee Uttar Fakirpur area of the district yesterday afternoon for his alleged involvement in the crimes committed against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. Elias Sharif, superintendent of police, Noakhali, said a team of police launched a drive at Fakirpur around 12pm and arrested Amir Ahmed alias Amir Ali Rajakar from a building in the area. International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 yesterday issued warrants ordering arrest of five alleged Razakars of Sudharampur area of Noakhali on war crimes charges. The tribunal issued the warrants as the prosecution formally submitted charge sheets accusing them of committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
