Dr Dipu Moni, a female candidate, has been elected for the third consecutive time— this is rare in the political history of the district. She has bagged 304,812 votes and outshone all other four AL lawmakers who were also elected in other seats of the district.
Her nearest rival, BNP candidate Sk Farid Ahmed Manik, has managed to receive only 35,501 votes.
Among the four newly selected male MPs, Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam Bir Uttam, the AL candidate for Chandpur-4 (Hajiganj-Shahrasti), has been elected MP for the fourth time. He has polled 298,104 votes, while his nearest rival, BNP candidate Mominul Huque, has polled 3,656 votes.
Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, the AL candidate for Chandpur-1, has been elected MP for the third time. He has received 196,844 votes, while his nearest rival, BNP candidate Mosharraf Hossain, has polled 30,799 votes.
Nurul Amin Ruhul and Muhamad Shafiqur Rahman, the newly elected lawmakers in Chandpur-2 and Chandpur-4 Constituency, respectively, are both first-time MPs, yet another feather in their long political career.
Nurul Amin Ruhul has polled 296,315 votes, while his nearest rival, BNP candidate Dr Jalaluddin, has polled 10,239 votes.
Shafiqur Rahman has polled 173,379 votes, while his nearest rival, BNP candidate Harun- or- Rashid, has polled 30,799 votes. In Bangladesh, Shafiqur Rahman is the only journalist to have been elected MP this time.
