A workshop on impacts of climate change on agriculture and adaptation to extreme events in Bangladesh was held at the VIP conference room of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute in Gazipur on Monday. The objective of the workshop was to report the outputs of joint research work on ‘Impact assessment of climate change on production and market of rice in Bangladesh’ and to identify areas of possible future collaboration between the BRRI and Japan International Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS). BRRI Director General Dr Jiban Krishna Biswas presided over the workshop while JIRCAS Programme Director Dr Akinori Oshibe was the chief guest. Professor of the Tokyo University Dr Takeshi Sakurai, BRRI Director (Administration and Common Service) Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir and BRRI Director (Research) Dr Md Ansar Ali also spoke in the programme. Experts and officials of both the organisations from Japan and Bangladesh were present at the workshop.
