Bangladesh ace leg-spinner Rumana Ahmed has been named in the prestigious International Cricket Council (ICC) women’s Twenty20 International squad by the world cricket apex body on Monday.

The 27-year-old Rumana is the first player from Bangladesh women’s cricket to earn the credible accolade.

Bangladesh had a tremendous year of 2018 in their decade-long international cricket. This year Bangladesh eves’ played 24 international matches-the highest in a calendar year, where they had splendid success rate: 50-50.

Rumana showed his dexterity with both bat and ball. The right-arm leg-spinner has been the second most successful T20I bowler in the 2018 calendar year with 30 scalps in 24 appearances, including four wickets in four matches in the ICC Women’s World T20 2018.

But she showcased her career best T20I bowling figures of 3-2 what he did against the Netherlands in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier at Utrecht.

Khulna-born Rumana shone in Bangladesh jaw-dropping success in ACC Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She bagged nine wickets in five-match road string with the best figures of 3-8. Rumana scored 75 from just three matches with the highest of 42 not out. She didn’t get chance to bat in two other matches because Bangladesh had not needed to get down for batting as they overhauled their target with no fuss.

Rumana is the first female bowler of Bangladesh who slammed a credible hat-trick in ODI against Ireland at Belfast in September 2016. But Fahima Khatun is the first Bangladesh Female cricket who has hat-trick in T20 International what he did against UAE in ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier-2018.

“It’s really a huge achievement for me to be elated,” said Rumana Ahmed, who represented Bangladesh in 58 T20Is where she claimed 52 wickets and scored 663 beside 36 ODIs.

“I would be felt much delights if some other players of our team would be stepping into the prestigious ICC squad,” Rumana told The Independent.

“This year we have won three multi-nation and bilateral series, where some other players had enormous contribution,” he added.

The T20I side boasts players from five countries, including four players from the ICC Women’s World T20 2018 champions Australia (Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner and Megan Schutt), three players from losing finalists India (Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Poonam Yadav), two players from New Zealand (Suzie Bates and Leigh Kasperek) and one player each from Bangladesh (Rumana Ahmed) and England (Natalie Sciver).

Smriti Mandhana and Poonam Yadav are the two India girls who feature in both the ODI and T20I squads. Other players to find places in both the squads are Australia’s Alyssa Healy and Suzie Bates of New Zealand.

In addition, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the women’s ODI and T20I teams of the year with New Zealand’s Suzie Bates named as captain of the 50-over side and Harmanpreet Kaur of India appointed captain of the 20-over side.

No Bangladesh cricketer broke into the ICC ODI squad. Pakistan all-rounder Sana Mir placed in the ICC ODI squad along with other players from six countries including two each from India, New Zealand and England, while one each from Australia, West Indies and south Africa.

The two sides have been selected by the same voting academy, which comprised members of the media and broadcasters who also voted for the annual women’s individual awards to be announced later today, and took into consideration player performances in the 2018 calendar year.
