The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolitan (CCDM) set their sight on Dhaka Premier League (DPL) to wrap up their cricket calendar after the conclusion of the First Division, Second Division and Third Division Cricket League successfully.
The CCDM, the country’s apex body of the domestic clubs’ cricket, even fixed at a schedule of the DPL for the 2018-2019 season as CCDM-in-charge Tawhid Mahmood said.
Tawhid also said that the upcoming edition of the prestigious cricket league will roll onto the ground on February 18 just eight days after the finish of the country’s blockbuster Twenty20 tournament, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
“We have successfully finished our First Division, Second Division and Third Division Cricket Leagues as per our plan,” Tawhid Mahmood said.
“We had plans to introduce a First Division Twenty20 Cricket League what we have finished in solid manner. We decided to hold its final at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium what we did it,” Tawhid told The Independent.
“Now we’ve set a schedule for Dhaka Premier League (DPL) upcoming edition. We’ve decided to start the DPL on February 18,” he added.
The CCDM-in-charge informed that they will hold the players’ draft for the traditional cricket league at the time of the cash-rich BPL Twenty20 tournament.
“We are yet to fix a date for the DPL players’ draft but we will soon finalise it after the end of the parliamentary election on December 30. But the day-long players’ draft will be held during the BPL,” he said.
He said that they will send letters to the participating clubs seeking their retention players’ list before the players’ draft. Last year each team could have retained five players. Along with that, the CCDM introduced a new clause under which a team could exchange a player under the mutual agreement.
Last year Abahani Limited, Legends of Rupganj, Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Gazi Group Cricketers, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, Shinepukur Cricket Club, Prime Bank Cricket Club, Brothers United Limited, Agrani Bank Cricket Club and Kalabagan Krira Chakra fought for the coveted DPL title but traditional powerhouse Abahani Limited had the last laugh.
Shinepukur Cricket Club and Agrani Bank Cricket Club among the clubs were the two promoted sides. But although Shinepukur Cricket Club restored their place, Agrani Bank finally failed to spark and demoted to the First Division with Kalabagan Krira Chakra.
This year, Uttara Sporting Club and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan (BKSP) as promotees will join with the top flight teams to show off their grits for the premier stage.
The two promoted sides- Uttara Sporting Club and BKSP- will attend players’ draft to first select their five players each.
As the newest members of the tournament, Uttar and BKSP were given the advantage to select players ahead of the players’ draft, which is yet to schedule. The lists of the retained and registered players by the clubs were confirmed by CCDM only after the clubs cleared 50 percent of their remuneration.
