BNP-Jamaat may unleash anarchy today, fears AL

UNB, Dhaka

Alleging that the BNP-Jamaat alliance is engaged in conspiracies over Sunday's election, Awami League yesterday said it might unleash anarchy and violence across the country today. "We've information that the BNP-Jamaat clique is engaged in conspiracies ahead of the election. They might resort to anarchy, terrorism and violence across the country tomorrow (Friday). Even, they may spread rumour creating video clips of fake booths after printing fake ballot papers," the ruling party said in a written complaint submitted to the Election Commission.

An AL delegation, led by its National Election Conducting Committee member Akteruzzaman, handed over the complaint to EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed.

"We've also come to know that Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, is their main associate," Akteruzzaman said reading read out the written complaint while talking to reporters at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city.

He alleged that the BNP-Jamaat combine continued their attacks on the leaders and activists of the Grand Alliance and Awami League.

Some 40 AL leaders and activists were critically injured while 10 of its offices vandalised and seven others set ablaze in separate attacks carried out by 'BNP-Jamaat terrorists' in different districts on Wednesday, according to the written complaint. On Wednesday, the attacks were carried out on AL leaders-activists and offices in seven districts -- Khagrachhari, Rajshahi, Bogura, Sirajganj, Gaibandha, Meherpur and Mymensingh. The ruling party urged the EC to bring the attackers to book soon.
