With the parliamentary election only a couple of days away, the Awami League (AL) candidates are campaigning hard in all the constituencies of this district. However, BNP candidates are not seenvery much in the field. But the BNP candidates are trying to establish contact with their voters, even though they are allegedly facing obstructions from ruling party activists in many places. Locals expect a tough fight between the AL and the BNP in the 11 constituencies of the district. But they want a peaceful voting atmosphere.
District election office sources said that 57 candidates are in the election race in the district. A total of 1,323 polling centres have been established in all the constituencies. The total number of voters in the district is 3,751,832, including 1,893,697 male and 1,858,135 female voters, according to the sources.
The 57 candidates running in these constituencies are: In Mymensingh-1 (Haluaghat-Dhobaura), there are three candidates. They are: Jewel Areng (AL), Advocate Afzal H Khan (BNP) and Humayan Md Abdullah Al Hadi (Islami Andolon Bangladesh).
In Mymensingh-2 (Phulpur-Tarakanda), there are four candidates. They are: Sharif Ahmed (AL), Shah Sahid Sarwar (BNP), Golam Moula Bhuiyan (Islami Andolon) and Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddique (independent).
In Mymensingh-3 (Gouripur), there are six candidates. They are: Nazim Uddin Ahmed (AL), Iqbal Hossain (BNP), Harun AL Bari (Communist Party of Bangladesh), Pranesh Chandra Pandit (Tarikat Federation), Md Ayub Ali (Islami Andolon Bangladesh) and Golam Muhammad (Zaker Party). In Mymensingh-4 (Sadar), there are five candidates. They are: Raushon Ershad (JP), Abu Wahab Akanda (BNP), advocate Emdadul Haque Millat (Communist Party of Bangladesh), Md Hamidul Islam (NPP) and Md Nasir Uddin (Islami Andolon Bangladesh).
In Mymensingh-5 (Muktagacha), there are seven candidates. They are: KM Khalid Babu (AL), Mohammad Zakir Hossain Bablu (BNP), Salahuddin Ahmed Mukti (JP), Md Mustafa Kamal (independent), Md Saman Miah (NPP), Md Johirul Islam (Zaker Party), and Manjurul Haque (Islami Andolon Bangladesh).
In Mymensingh-6 (Phulbaria), there are six candidates. They are: Muslem Uddin (AL), Shams Uddin Ahmed (BNP), Khandaker Rafiqul Islam (JP), Nurul Alam Siddiquee (Islami Andolon Bangladesh), Chowdhury Mohammad Ishaq (JSD) and Shafiqul Islam Minto (independent) .
In Mymensingh-7 (Trishal), there are four candidates. They are: Hafez Ruhul Amin Madani (AL), Raushon Ershad (JP) (she eventually withdrew from the contest in support of AL candidate Hafez Ruhul Anin Madani), Dr Mahbubur Rahman Liton (BNP) and Md Azizul Haque (Islami Andolon Bangladesh).
In Mymensingh-8 (Ishwarganj), there are seven candidates. They are: Fakhrul Imam (JP), Mahmud Hasan Sumon (independent) (Sumon withdrew from the election in support of Grand Alliance candidate Fakhrul Imam), AHM Khalequzzaman (Gonoforum), Mohammad Habibullah (Islami Andolon Bangladesh), Saif Uddin Ahmed Mony (Muslim League) Abdulalh Al Mamun (NPP) and Abul Bashar (Liberal Democratic Party).
In Mymensingh-9 (Nandail), there are six candidates. They are: Anwarul Abedin Khan Tuhin (AL), Khurram Khan Chowdhury (BNP), Maj. Gen. (retd) Abdus Salam (independent) (Abdus Salam withdrew from the election in support of AL candidate Anwarul Abedin Tuhin), Md Hasnat Mahmud Talha (JP), Saidur Rahman (Islami Andolon Bangladesh) and Shafiqul Alam (Zaker Party).
