The Chattogram Awami League city unit yesterday (Thursday) urged people to vote for the AL-lead Grand Alliance candidates for continuation of the development projects undertaken in the district.
City mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and AL city unit general secretary read out a written statement in this regard at a meeting with reporters at the Chattogram press club.
Nasir Uddin said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasian took many mega projects, including the building of a tunnel at the Karnaphuli river, getting rid of waterlogging problems, and construction of elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar to the airport, that were being implemented. After full implementation of these projects, Chattogram would become a modern city. For continuation of these development initiatives, the AL must be voted to power again, he added. Heurged locals to be patient and cast their votes in favour of the AL-led Grand Alliance candidates.
He also said that the Chattogram WASA, Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), Chattogram City Corporation, Chattogram Port Authority, Water Development Board and Power Development Board completed many projects in the last 10 years. A large number of new projects have been taken during the same timeframe, he added. He introduced the candidates—Didarul Alam, lawmaker for Chattogram-4, barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud for Chattogram-5, Main uddin Khan badal for Chattogram-8, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Noufel for Chattogram-9 and Dr Afsarul Amin for Chattogram-10—to the reporters and begged votes for them. AL city unit president Mahatab Uddin Chowdhury and AL leader Iftekhar Saimom Chowdhury were present at the meeting. However, AL candidate from Chattogram-11, MA Latif, was not present.
