Ferrer wins 25th title

AFP, KUALA LUMPUR: Top seed David Ferrer clinched his 25th title Sunday after beating fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-5, 7-5 to win the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur. The match was tightly contested but Ferrer’s determination and deep forehands ultimately proved too much for Lopez.
“It was my best match of the tournament and my best performance here in Malaysia,” the world number eight told reporters. In the men’s doubles final, Treat Huey from the Philippines and Henri Kontinen from Finland won their second consecutive tournament as a pair after a 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 victory over South African Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram from the US.

 

Novo Nordisk half marathon Nov 13

A 21.1 kilometre half marathon will be held on November 13 to mark the World Diabetes Day, says a Novo Nordisk press release.
A total of about 5000 runners – including UK, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Malaysian – will participate in the Novo Nordisk Half Marathon 2015, country’s biggest marathon, a 21.1 kilometres run, on November 13 on the eve of World Diabetes Day. Novo Nordisk in association with Sports International will organise the event to create awareness about physical activity and encourage people to invest time in it.
Starting from Gulshan Park, the half marathon will be concluded at the Manik Mia Avenue via Jatio Sangshad Bhaban, Novo Theatre, Dhaka Army Museum and Hatirjheel Development Project.
“A little investment of time daily or weekly towards some kind of physical activities can reduce the risk of diabetes or other non-communicable diseases,” said A Rajan Kumar, Managing Director of Novo Nordisk Pharma.
Awards will be given in 12 categories for male and female runners, the first winner will get $1,500, the second $1,000 and the third winner $700.  Everyone can register at online:www.dhakamarathon.org to participate in the half marathon.
