New voters can play a decisive role in Barishal in the next national polls, which are slated for December 30. According to district election office sources, the total number of voters in Barishal was 1,529,264 in the previous election, but it has now increased to 1,778,585. The new voters include 114,486 female voters in six constituencies of the district.
The Barishal-1 constituency (119) now has 257,220 voters. It has 33,040 new voters. In Barishal-2, the number of voters has increased by 42,343, reaching 301,397. The number of voters has increased by 36,080, reaching 2, 53,414, in Barishal-3. The voters’ number has increased by 51,629, reaching 324,128, in Barishal-4.
Barishal-5 (123) has the maximum increase in the number of voters. It has gone up by 55,039, taking the total to 397,267.
The Barishal-6 constituency has 245,159 voters, of whom 31,190 will cast their votes for the first time.
While all parties are wooing the new voters, Oikyafront candidates are using the photos of detained BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to make a special appeal to the female voters.
AL-led Grand Alliance candidates are trying to appeal to 8,97,923 male voters by using the photos of leading Liberation War fighters and harping on the huge development works that have taken place in the areas.
