The military PR organisation, Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR), has claimed that some fraudsters, posing as military officers of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or above, are demanding money from MP candidates.

Issuing a press release, ISPR assistant director Mohammad Rez-Ul-Karim Shammi yesterday urged the people to inform the law enforcement agencies if anybody claims to be an Army officer and demands financial facilities. “The law enforcement agencies have already arrested some imposters, who claimed they were Army officers and demanded money from MP candidates,” the press release added.

“There is a possibility that the fraudsters may pose as Army officers and demand money from the MP candidates,” the press release alerted.

Meanwhile, on December 24, at least 25,000 military personnel, including about 5,000 members of the Navy, were deployed as a ‘striking force’ in most of the upazilas to help maintain law and order during the parliamentary polls to be held on December 30.

At least 64 units of the Bangladesh Army, each headed by a unit commander of the rank of a Lieutenant Colonel, have been deployed to help the civil force. The Army personnel are working in the administrative areas of responsibility (AOR) under the supervision of the 10 Army divisions across the country.

A circular on election duty says the Army personnel have been deployed as a ‘striking force’ for 10 days from December 24 to January 2, 2019.
