Bangladesh women’s cricket team continued their disappointing performance when they conceded a 20-run defeat to their Pakistan in the first match of the two-match ODI series at Southend Club Cricket Stadium in Karachi yesterday.
Pakistan women’s cricket team collected a moderate total of 214-10 in 49.5 overs courtesy of Bishmah Maroof’s 92, after which Bangladesh managed to put on 194-9 in the stipulated 50 overs.
Having chosen to bat, Pakistan lost their two top-order batters for 38 runs inside 12.3 overs. Skipper Salma Khatun provided the breakthrough for Bangladesh when she got rid of opener Sidra Ameen for 12. Fahima Khatun assisted Salma removing Javeria Khan when she was sent back for 21.
After the exit of Javeria and Ameen, Bishmah Maroof came to wickets to rescue her side from the precarious situation. Maroof once again succeeded in her efforts as she steered Pakistan to a respectable total of 114.
This Pakistan all-rounder, who previously made heroics for Pakistan in Twenty20 series, stitched a string of partnership including 61-run with Nain Abidi for the third wicket stand.
She hit 36-run with Asmavia Iqbal for the seventh wicket and another 32-run eighth wicket partnership with Rabiya Shah before being dismissed by Lata Mondal. She struck 92 off 128, clubbing eight boundaries.
For the visiting side Salma Khatun was the most successful bowler, who finished her bowling figure with three for 31. Lata Mondal, Nahida Akhter, Khadija Tul Kubra and Fahima Khatun took one wicket each.
In reply, Bangladesh chased poorly as they lost their openers in the space of 36. Anam Amin trapped both openers in her spin web.
Farzana Haque tried to handle the trouble and made 24 runs for the third wicket with Lata Mondal and 44-run with Rumana Ahmed for the fourth wicket partnership before her departure.
Rumana tried to steady the innings but she did not get ample support from the other end as wickets were tumbling at regular interval. She smashed the highest 70 off 97 with four boundaries. Farzana Haque (26), Shamima Sultana (24) and Jahanara Alam (23) were the other contributors for the visitors.
Anam Amin was the prime pick of home side, who snapped up three for 25. Asmavia Iqbal, Sana Mir, Nida Dar, Aliya Riaz and Bishmah Maroof claimed one wicket apiece for the local side. Maroof was named for the play of the match.
