Bangladesh made a disappointing 1-1 draw with lowly Bhutan in their second match of the AFC Under-19 Championship qualifying round yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital yesterday.
Sonam Togay gave Bhutan an early lead in the sixth minute and Masuk Meah Jony levelled the margin on 77th minute.
Bhutan, who were under-rated after conceding 7-0 defeat to Uzbekistan, appeared with a different look team against Bangladesh while they stunned the hosts to force share points the match.
Bhutan, who looked very aggressive and fought evenly, was a bit success with their counter attack strategy taking the advantages of blunders by the hosts.
It was a counter attack on sixth minute when Bhutan forwards put huge pressure down the right side and forced Bangladesh defenders to concede a corner and from a pin-pointed right flank kick of captain Wangchuk, Tobgay stunned all netting the ball from close range (1-0).
After conceding the goal, Bangladesh boys became more disorganized and were displaying very awful performance which exhilarated the Bhutanese players’ morale, as they just forced the local boys to stay at bay for few minutes and also produced some dangerous attacks.
However, Bangladesh worked hard to bounce back strongly but plenty of miss-passes and failing to keep the cool just at the moment of final charge could not open the scoring despite creating chances.
Bangladesh could have equalised the margin on 19th minute but it was unfortunate as a good attempt of Mannaf Rabbi from the
inside box was saved by Bhutanese defender Tenjin Dorji.
After losing the first real scoring chance Bangladesh stepped up their attacks but they could never bother the Bhutan defence seriously. They lost the ball possession time and again to throw away a number of close range chances.
Bangladesh squandered two consecutive chances as Sarwar Zaman Nipu and Rohit failed to score being unmarked from inside the box.
Finally Bangladesh marked the target when captain Masuk Mea Jony headed home an Ibrahim free-kick on 77th minute (1-1).
Most of the time of the post lemon session, Bangladesh despite playing with full command and also open some good spaces but could not score goals and had to remain content with one point.
Earlier, favourites Uzbekistan maintained their winning streak with a convincing 3-0 win over Sri Lanka in the first match of the day.
Tukhtasinov Nurillo, Doston Ibragimov and Kodirkolov Sanjar scored one goal each for Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan were leading the group with full six points from two matches.
