Raheed elected DCAB

Daily Prothom Alo special correspondent Raheed Ejaz and bdnews24.com senior correspondent Nurul Islam Hasib have been elected president and general secretary of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) respectively for the year 2019.
UNB special correspondent AKM Moinuddin has been re-elected vice-president of the 11-member executive committee of the DCAB,
Chief Election Commissioner M Shafiqul Karim announced the results after the annual general meeting (AGM) held at Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday. Senior journalist Nizam Ahmed was the election commissioner. The AGM was presided over by outgoing President Rezaul Karim Lotus.
Other office bearers are joint secretary Israt Jahan Urmi (senior correspondent of DBCNews), treasurer Mahadi Hasan Talukder (special correspondent of Kaler Kantho) and office secretary Abu Hena Emrul Kayesh (senior correspondent of Bangla Vision).
Five executive office members are Angur Nahar Monty (joint news editor, News24 TV), Md Mahfuzur Rahman (special correspondent, Jamuna TV), Sanaul Haq (chief reporter, ATN Bangla), Touhidur Rahman (banglanews24.com) and Md Khurram Zaman (special correspondent of barta24).
SI comes under gun attack

Sub-inspector Anwar Hossain of Sadar Model Police Station reportedly came under a gun attack entering in the police station on Monday night.
Soon after the incident, police allegedly arrested a Joynal Abedin, member of Jatiya Party central committee in the connection with the gun attack.
Joynal Abedin entered the police station and opened fire aiming to the duty Sub-inspector Anwar Hossain around 10:30 pm but luckily the SI escaped the gun attack unhurt, said Kamrul Islam, officer-in-Charge of Sadar Model Police Station. There are several sabotages cases against Joynal with different police stations, the OC added.
3 drug peddlers held with yaba tablets in Rajshahi

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three alleged drug traders with banned yaba tablets from Khirshikantikar area under Shahmukhdum Police Station in the city on Monday night. RAB sources said the arrested persons were identified as Towhidul Islam, 35, Amirul Islam, 52, and Sabuj Mian, 19.
On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a sudden raid in the area at about 1.30 am and arrested them red-handed.
The RAB team recovered 410 pieces of yaba tablets and 661.2 liters of country-made liquor from their possessions. The sources said the arrested persons were involved in yaba trading and trafficking for long.
Death anniv of Syed Yousuf Hassan today

Today is the second death anniversary of Dr Syed Yousuf Hassan, says a press release.
He actively participated in the language movement of 1952 and went to prison for couple of times. He was one of the founding members of the NAP (Muzaffar) and was very active in the progressive movement. The then Government of Pakistan confiscated his passport and had his citizenship cancelled while he was abroad.
