A commemorative programme was held in remembrance of recently-demise veteran filmmaker, film editor, film society activist and freedom fighter Saidul Anam Tutul. He died on December 18 at the age of 68.

Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh (FFSB) and all affiliated film societies under FFSB, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Bangladesh Short Film Forum, Bangladesh Documentary Parshad and Directors’ Guild jointly organised the event yesterday at the National Art Plaza auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.

Filmmaker Morshedul Islam, Masiuddin Shaker, Salahuddin Lavlu, veteran actor Syed Hasan Imam, senior journalist Abed Khan, BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, film director and editor Ratan Pal and actress Nima Rahman, among others, were present at the event.

Tutul’s daughter, Oishee and wife, Mobassher Khanam were also present at the programme.

Besides, ‘Adhiyar’, a full-length feature film directed by Saidul Anam Tutul, was also screened after the commemorative event.

Born in 1950 in Old Dhaka, Tutul was a filmmaker, film editor, film society movement activist and freedom fighter. He was awarded the prestigious National Film Award in the category of best film editor for ‘Surja Dighal Bari’ in 1979. He also edited a few more popular films like Syed Salahuddin Zaki’s ‘Ghuddi’, Sheikh Neyamat Ali-directed ‘Dahan’, Morshedhul Islam’s ‘Agami’, ‘Dhukhai’ and ‘Dipu Number 2’.

Tutul made debut as a filmmaker in 2003 with his maiden film ‘Adhiyar’.
