Vote for boat to continue pace of development: Mosharraf

LGRD and Co-operative Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain urged voters to cast their votes for boat again to keep peace across the country and continue rapidity of development under the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

The minister said, “People should cast their votes in favour of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the 11th parliamentary election slated for December 30 as she only can continue the pace of development and bring targeted progress of the country.”

The minister said this while addressing a poll rally at Station Road of Faridpur district town on Monday night.

“If you do not cast your vote in favour of boat, the country will be deprived of economic growth,” he said.

The minister also mentioned that there is no alternative to Sheikh Hasina, who is only able to bring peace and happiness for all people with her continuous development work in the country.

Over 42 lakh textbooks to be distributed in Jamalpur

The education department will distribute 42, 46, 663 textbooks free of cost on the 1st day of January, 2019 among the students of Madrasa and secondary level in the district.

According to District Education Office sources, the textbooks will be distributed among 3,25,909 students of Madrasa and secondary level on the first day of new year. A total of 4,74,824 books for Ebtedayee students (class one to five), 5,96,039 for Dakhil students (class six to nine), 11670 books for Dakhil (vocational) students, 30,06,656 books for secondary students (class six to nine), 1,11,085 books for SSC (vocational) students, 46347 books for SSC and Dakhil trade students and 42 brail books for blind students were allotted in the district.

District Education Officer, Md Abdul Helim Fakir said all textbooks have been dispatched in all the upazilas for distribution among the students on January 1 next.

Road accident kills couple

UNB, Nilphamari

A couple was killed when a bus hit them on Nilphamari-Domar road at Palashbari in Domar upazila yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Ainul Haq, 50, son of Abdul Gafur and his wife Majeda Begum, 45 of Harinchara village in the upazila.

Ershadul Alam, officer-in-charge of Nilphamari Police Station, said the Domar-bound bus of ‘Mehedi Paribahan’ knocked down the couple when they were heading towards Nilphamari Diabetic Hospital, leaving Ainul dead on the spot and Majeda injured.

Later, she was taken to Nilphamari Modern Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

A case was filed in this connection.

Yaba tablets seized in C’nawabganj

Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1,850 pieces of yaba tablet from Lakkhichar frontier area under Shibganj upazila of the district yesterday morning.

A patrol team of BGB-53 Battalion from Masudpur border out post conducted a raid in the area at about 8.30 am and recovered the yaba tablets in an abandoned condition, a BGB official said.
