Journalist leaders yesterday urged their community members to get united under a single platform rising above politics to realise their rights and demands. The call came from a human chain programme held in front of the Jatiya Press Club, reports UNB. A faction of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) arranged the programme demanding the reopening of closed media outlets, full implantation of the eight wage board and declaration of the 9th wage board. DUJ president Elahi Newaj Khan said, “This is the first movement of journalists after a long time for ensuring their welfare and rights. We took to the streets coming out of political affiliation for realising the demands of journalists.”
Division among the journalists is the main reason why journalists suffer, he said adding, “We’ll do everything necessary for forging a real unity among journalists.” Urging the media owners to fully implement the 8th wage board, Amirul Islam said, “We’ll form a committee to identify which media outlets are yet to fully implement the wage board.”
