Medical college admission seekers yesterday blocked the Shahbagh intersection, one of the busiest points in the capital to press their demand of rearranging fresh test for medical admission.
A total of 10 student organisations including Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Chhatra Oikya Forum, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Bangladesh Chhatra Moitri took part in the college admission seekers’ movement.
Their sit in program had halted the traffic movement in that area for four hours from 12 pm to 4 pm.
Witness said that a group of protesters gathered on Shaheed Minar premises around 10am Sunday and then took position at Shahbagh around 12 noon. The agitating students continued blockade till 4pm.
Besides staging street protest to press their demand, a seven member student delegation from the protesting aspirants’ submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister Office, seeking PM’s interference over the matter.
After submission memorandum, a press briefing was held in Shahbagh intersection at 5pm. Fresh programmes came at the press briefing to realize their demand. The programmes included a protest rally at Central Shaheed Minar on Monday, torch procession on Tuesday.
And if the demand is not met by Tuesday, general student strike will be enforced at all educational institutions across the country on Wednesday.
The aspirants demanded that the result of medical college admission test held on September 18 be scrapped because questions were leaked on Facebook the night before the exams.
Since then, protest programmes have been continuing at different points of the capital.
