RMG workers go on rampage
UNB, Gazipur
The workers of a garment factory, who went on strike few days back for salary hike, went on a rampage seeing their factory shut at Rajendrapur in Sadar upazila on Sunday.
Police said the workers of NAZ Limited factory went on work abstention to press home their demand.
The authorities concerned suspended production of the factory for the day apprehending further trouble, said police.
Seeing the gate closed from outside around 8 am the workers got furious and staged demonstrations in front of the factory. They also torched a motorbike and vandalised a covered van and a CNG run auto-rickshaw.
On information, police went to the spot and charged baton and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse them, leaving ten people injured.
Another Nganj fire victim dies
UNB, Dhaka
A man, who along with eight other people, sustained burn injures in a fire at Haq Bazar of Fatullah in Narayanganj early Wednesday, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday, raising the death from the incident to four.
Srinath Chandra Barman, 40, a resident of Fatullah area, died around 4 am while undergoing treatment at the hospital with 30 per cent burn injuries, said Sub-inspector Bacchu Miah, in-charge of the hospital police outpost.
Earlier, Chhaya Rani Haridar, 60, mother of Srinath and Srinaths sister Sumitra Rani, 27 succumbed to burn their injuries on Thursday while Srinaths nine-year-old son Arpit died at the hospital on Saturday.
Nine people sustained burn injuries as a fire, ignited from gas line leakage, broke out on the 2nd floor of a four-storey building at Haq Bazar of Fatullah early Wednesday. All the victims were admitted to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Municipal mayor arrested
UNB, Rajshahi
Police arrested the mayor of Nowhata Municipality in Poba upazila from the city on Saturday night in a sabotage case.
The arrestee Sheikh Makbul Hossain is a BNP leader and the main election agent of BNP candidate Shafiqul Haque Milon for Rajshahi-3 constituency.
Abul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mohonpur Police Station, said a team of police arrested Makbul as he was wanted in several sabotage cases.
Seminar on professional dev of ex-cadets held
UNB, Dhaka
A seminar titled Anwar Hossain Memorial ACOC Seminar for professional development of ex-cadets was held in the city recently.
The Association of Cumilla Old Cadets (ACOC) arranged the seminar to provide professional guidance to young ex-cadets from the ACOC.
Over 200 ex-cadets of the ACOC participated in the seminar presided over by ACOC president Prof Dr Saif Ullah Munshi, said a press release yesterday.
Ex-cadets from different cadet colleges with successful careers in various professions spoke at the seminar.
Managing Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) KAM Majedur Rahman, who is also an ex-cadet from Faujdarhat Cadet College, attended the seminar as the chief guest.
BNP leader arrested in Sylhet

Police arrested the president of BNP city unit from his residence in Tatipara area yesterday.
A team of police conducted a raid in the house of Nasim Hossain and arrested him around 12:30 am, aid Azmal Bakta Sadek, acting general secretary of city BNP.
Police arrested Nasim as he was wanted in a case, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (media) Zedan AL Musa of Sylhet Metropolitan police.
