Health experts at a meeting called for increasing investment in the country’s health sector to ensure universal health coverage.
It is needed to strengthen the health system by ensuring necessary nutrition, safe drinking water and other health related services. More investment in this sector can be effective, they said.
By achieving universal health coverage, we can make all our people healthy and free from financial trouble by reducing the risks of communicable and non-communicable diseases, they said while addressing a views exchange meeting with civil society members and journalists at National Press Club. Public Health Foundation (PHF) organized the event recently, marking the Universal Health Coverage Day 2018. Chaired and moderated by Dr. Aftab Uddin, vice chairperson of PHF, Prof. Dr. Sharmin Yeasmin, head of Community Medicine Department of Bangladesh Medical College and vice chairperson of PHF, presented the keynote paper. In her presentation, Dr. Sharmin stressed the need on combined efforts of all for achieving the universal health coverage.
She called on the government to raise awareness across the country about the importance of life style change for preventing non-communicable diseases. Underscoring on development of health as well as prevention of diseases, other speakers demanded making the educational system community-based and coordinated.
It is also needed to properly evaluate the alternative medicine along with modern healthcare system, they observed. They hoped that it would be possible to ensure universal health coverage by 2032 if steps are taken for recruiting adequate physicians, nurses and other health workers and their efficiency enhanced.n
