Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said Sunday that he is satisfied with the performance of the team what they did in the last back-to-back home series against Zimbabwe and the West Indies.
The experience the players gathered throughout the longest times of these consecutive series, Nannu believed that they could utilise it and fare well in their next series.
Bangladesh will travel to New Zealand to play their next series in the second week of the February just after the conclusion of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) sixth edition, slated for January 5.
“We played two series at home. After a long gap of times, we played back-to-back series. Overall, the performance in these series is, of course, satisfactory,” Minhajul Abedin Nannu said.
“We’re very satisfied that an even balance has come into the team in terms of batting, bowling and fielding. The series we have ahead these experienced will be benefited for the players,” Minhajul told media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
“We’ve series in New Zealand ahead. As we had a bad experience in the last New Zealand, I think, players are now matured enough. After a long gap, we’ll go there to play three-Test series. It’s also a big challenge for us. Always we did not get chance to play three-Test series, so it’ll be challenging for the players,” he added.
To fare well in Test, the chief selector said that it’s important for the players to do well in every department-batting, bowling and fielding. He hoped that the experience they gathered from these back-to-back series they’ll be capitalised it in New Zealand.
“It’s important to improve in every department in cricket. Test is such a type of game, where it’s needed to improve in every area. I believe our players will use the experience in New Zealand series what they gathered from these series,” he viewed.
“This experience along with last New Zealand series experience will be benefited us this time around. Inshaallah, we must do better,” he maintained.
Nannu said that they will announce Bangladesh squad for the New Zealand tour within January 15 after holding discussion with the team management.
“We’ve New Zealand series in our mind. We’ll soon sit with the team management and discuss about New Zealand tour,” he said.
“We’ve a plan what we discuss with them. We’ve to move forward with the plan in that condition. We’ve plans in mind what we will work with it,” he also said.
“We’ll announce our squad for the New Zealand tour within January 15,” he added.
When asked about the next World Cup, the former Bangladesh captain said they have World Cup in mind and is hopeful of getting a good shape of the players for the extravaganza event.
“Still four-five months remained for the World Cup. So, we’re thinking much about it. We’ve a plan what we’ve been starting since the last two months,” he revealed.
“Actually plan for the World Cup should start a year ago what we’ve in mind. In the meantime, we’ve some more series. We’ve to see a level of players’ fitness. Inshaallah, we’ll reach to a good place before the World Cup,” he added.
