BRTA mobile courts check charging of extra fare 54 cases filed, Tk 64,700 fined
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) lodged 54 cases and fined different vehicle operators a total of Tk 64,700 yesterday in the capital for charging extra fares and other irregularities. Three mobile courts of BRTA fined the vehicles and lodged the cases for charging of extra fare from passengers that are higher than the rate fixed by the government, carrying fake and expired driving licence, and plying vehicles without fitness. Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday observed the activities of the mobile court of BRTA, monitoring team and special campaign for road safety on Manik Mia avenue on the premises of National Parliament Building. The minister also warned of punishment against owners involved in charging extra bus fare and directed them to put the bus fare list on display inside vehicles. Punitive action is a must if any transport worker or any group is found to be taking additional transport fare from the passengers, he said. He also sought cooperation from owners of vehicles in this regards. The BRTA recently re-fixed the fares of bus and mini bus due to the price hike of CNG. Bus fare has been raised to Tk 1.70 per kilometre from the present Tk 1.60 while for minibuses the new fare is Tk 1.60 / kilometre from Tk 1.50.
