Three IS suspects on 5-day remand

A Mymensingh court yesterday placed three men including a 15-year old on 5-day remand each in a case filed under Anti-terrorism Act after they were arrested by police for their suspected links with the radical Islamic militant group Islamic State (IS).
The arrestees are Mohammad Fahim Al Faisal Ibne Musa Bin Julkernine, 15, a class X student at Atharabari MC High School, Mizanur Rahman Khan, 20, a honours 2nd year student of Management Department at Govt. Ananda Mohan College and Badiul Hasan, 24, a businessman.
Sabbir Yeasir Ahsan Chowdhury, the judge of the court, granted the remand after police produced the three before the court seeking a 10-day remand.
Earlier, police filed a case under Anti-terrorism Act against three suspected IS links held from Iswarganj upazila of the district.
Sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police Mafizul Islam filed the case with the Iswarganj Police Station yesterday morning, said Md Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Police had detained nine people including the three after raiding different areas of Iswarganj upazila on Friday and Saturday.
Police first detained Julkernine, son of school teacher Johirul Islam of Fatehnagar in Iswarganj while pasting posters supporting IS from Sohagi School and College area in Iswarganj Friday afternoon.
The poster read Madhya-Prachyer Dak (The Call of Middle East) and had messages supporting the IS. Later, he was handed over to DB police on Friday evening.
