Share prices at the country's twine bourses fell across the board yesterday amid high sale pressure when buyers were reluctant in long term positioning. The weak demand pulled the daily trade value to three and half months low at the prime stock exchange, reports BSS.
Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw 238 issues closing lower on the first trading session of the week when only 49 securities ended moderately higher, with 35 others trading at their previous closing rates.
The wider price fall jolted all major sectors including bank, pharmaceuticals, mutual fund, NBFI, fuel and power and telecom while only food and allied managed to escape the slide.
Investors were mostly inactive and remained on the sidelines to safeguard their positions that resulted in big drop in the daily trade value to Tk 336.81 crore, the lowest in the past three and half months. The trade volume also plunged by 21.02 per cent to 9.54 crore shares.
The lower activities caused over 42-point fall in the DSEX that neared 4800 points level, with the DS30 and DSES ending at 1834.61 and 1170.11 respectively.
The day's major losers were EBL1stMF, Prime Life, Far Chemical, Aman Feed and BD Finance. Correction in GP shares continued yesterday when the stock lost 1.4 per cent, with telecom sector losing 1.5 per cent in price. The top advancing issues were Rahim Textile, 4th ICB, Shurwid Industries, Legacy Footwear and FBFIF. However, the mutual funds showed clear dominance in the top ten gainers' list capturing five entries. FAR Chemical topped the turnover list followed by Saif Power, Lafarge Surma, SA Port, Square Pharma, Aman Feed and ACI.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened the week in red on lower trade. The broader CSCX index lost 64.14 points to fall below 9000-point mark at 8983.82.
At the first day of the week, only 41 issues closed higher against 165 losing scrips when 67.56 lakh shares changed hands for Tk 22.48 crore.
