Menon asks authorities to resolve baggage handling problems
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon yesterday directed the authorities concerned to resolve the ongoing passengers hassle
in handling the checked baggage in Hajrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
We wont tolerate any passenger hassle regarding luggage handling. We will take stern action, if anyone found responsible for the hassle, he said while visiting the terminals of HSIA in the capital. During the visit, the minister directed the civil aviation authority and Biman Bangladesh Airlines to handover the late arrived baggage immediately to their owners as HSIA witnessed huge pile of unaccompanied luggage.
Menon also directed all the airlines to arrange accommodation and food for the passengers especially the hajj pilgrims who have to stay at the airport to get back their checked luggage. HISA sources said some airlines mainly Saudi Arabian Airlines carried many passengers leaving behind their baggage at the origin airport of the flights. Hundreds of unaccompanied belongings have been arriving at HISA since last three weeks.
The situation worsened as Biman Bangladesh airlines is facing the same hurdle during operating their return hajj flights. The Biman officials said they are failing to carry passengers and their baggage in the same flight due to strict security measures taken by the Saudi authorities in Jeddah Airport.
