Russel ride on Azizov double against BU

Azizov Alisher of Uzbekistan scored a couple of goals, as Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra moved into the final of the Walton Independence Cup Football tournament defeating Brothers Union by 2-0 yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Russel, who won the treble in 2012-13 season, played last final in the Independence Cup in 2013, after a long interval again secured the final berth of the tournament.       

On the day it seemed that the game was a little flat at the early stage, even almost the opening half had not good tempo excepting a goal attempt by Russel’s Nigerian Raphael missed the target.

However, Brothers could have taken an early lead in the 12th minute after getting out of a big scare when Shofiqul Islam floated a left side cross inside the area and Lima Leonardo connected his header. But the Russel’s keeper Ashraful Rana was well alert to read the movement of the Brazilian forward to grip this close range header.

Finally, Russel broke the deadlock just in the 45th minute and the match boosted up with attack and counter attack. Azizov Alisher of Uzbekistan utlising a. Raphael pass found the net with a superb straight shot into the near post (1-0).

Brothers could not bounce back well, as showed against Arambagh in the quarterfinal as they conceded another goal inside sixth minute of the second half.

Russel, who began the second half with more pressing attitude, doubled the advantage very early hour with Azizov Alisher again marked the target capitalising the defense lapse of Brothers on 51st minute.

This time, it was an ordinary move down the right and another Raphael cross found an unmarked Azizov, who did not miss to shot past the goalkeeper (2-0).
