Four cops injured as miscreants

Three police officers and a constable of Sakhipur Police Station in Tangail sustained injuries as miscreants vandalised a police van on Tuesday night.
They were later rescued by the law enforcers and admitted to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex at 2am.
The injured were Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sakhipur Police Station Ayub Ali, Constable Shafiqul Islam, SI Doyal Chandra Sarkar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Foyez Uddin.
Ameer Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sakhipur Police Station said criminals halted the police van by felling tree on a road in Shakhipur upazila of Tangail on Tuesday night and also vandalised the vehicle, leaving at least four policemen injured.
Around 50-60 miscreants, armed with sticks, carried out the attack in Boro Chauna Bazar area around 12:30am, he also said.
Additional police forces were deployed in Boro Chauna area soon after the incident.
A police team led by SI Ayub was patrolling the area when the law enforcers came under the attack, the OC said.
On information, other police teams from different areas reached the spot and brought the situation under control firing blank shots, he added.
Firearms seized in C’nawabganj

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh recovered firearms and gunpowder from Masudpur border in Shibganj upazila on Tuesday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB conducted a drive in Tarapur field around 10:15 pm and challenged three people while they were trying to intrude Bangladesh from Indian border, said Lt Col Sajjad Sarwer, commanding officer of BGB-53 battalion.
Later, they fled the scene leaving a bag.
Searching the bag, the BGB team recovered a pistol, a one-shooter pistol, 11-round bullet and 5.5 kg gun powder worth of TK 3.22lakh, said the official.
74 including BNP men held

Police arrested 74 people including 45 BNP leaders and activists from different upazilas from Tuesday night to yesterday morning.
BNP candidate for Satkhira-3 constituency Dr Shaidul Alam said a police team led by Assistant Superintendent of Kaliganj Police Jamirul Islam along with the officer-in-charges of Kaliganj and Debhata police stations conducted the drive and arrested 45 BNP leaders and activists while they were in an election preparation meeting.
On the other hand, in a special drive, police arrested 29 people in different cases including that of sabotage.
Woman, grandson killed in Satkhira road accident
UNB, Satkhira
A woman and her grandson were killed while her husband sustained severe injuries as the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a pick-up van on Satkhira-Khulna road at Kumira village in Keshabpur upazila on Tuesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Farida Begum, 50, wife of Samad Morol of Bhabatipur village in the upazila and her grandson Saad Hossain, 14, son of Abdul Alim, hailing from Tailkupi village in Tala upazila.
Witnesses said the pick-up van hit the motorcycle from behind in the afternoon, leaving the duo dead on the spot and Samad Morol severely injured.
Officer-in-charge of Patkelghata Police Station Rezaul Karim said the injured was rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital and the bodies were also sent to the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
