Eight burned as melted iron falls on them in city

Eight workers sustained burn injuries as melted iron fell on them at a steel factory in the capitals Shyampur area on Monday evening. The injured are: Afsar, 40, Alamin, 25, Labu, 25, Mannan, 26, Jahangir, 28, Aziz, 35, Shah Alam, 35, and Abdul Latif, 30. Melted iron accidentally fell on a group of workers around 7:30 pm when they were working at Kadamtali Steel Mills Pvt Ltd at Kadamtali, leaving eight of them injured, said sub-inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost. The condition of five of them is critical, the SI added.
Gold bars worth Tk 17.5m seized from Dhaka airport

Customs officials on Monday afternoon seized a total of 30 gold bars worth around Tk 1,75,00,000 (1 crore 75 lakhs, or 17.5 million) from an aircraft at Shahjalal International Airport. Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director (CIID) Dr Shahidul Islam said the gold bars, weighing a combined 3.48 kilograms, were concealed under a seat of Emirates Airlines flight EK-586 that arrived here from Dubai around 5:10 am.
BAB to make internationally recognised guideline

Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) is going to make a new internationally recognised accreditation guideline for giving certificates to the interested local and multinational companies. The information came yesterday from an inauguration function of the BAB Assessor Refresher Course at the Industries Ministry conference room in the city, said a press release. BAB Director General M Monowarul Islam attended the function as the chief guest while senior officials of the accreditation board were present. Monowarul Islam said BAB is working sincerely to build a world standard system in Bangladesh. The accreditation board has already accelerated the accreditation related activities following the guidelines of the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC), he added.
