Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday signed a deal with JSC Russian Helicopters to buy two helicopters for its Air Wing. According to BGB sources, the two helicopters would be purchased to transport troops, carry goods, conduct rescue operations and surveillance in remote and inaccessible regions and border areas.
Director General of BGB Major General Shafeenul Islam and Andrey Furtay, on behalf of JSC Russian Helicopters, signed the deal at a programme at BGB headquarters in the capital yesterday. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Public Security Division Secretary of the Home Ministry Mostafa Kamal Uddin, First Secretary of Russian embassy Andrei Bankaev were present among others during the signing ceremony.
A high-powered delegation led by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan had visited the aviation plant and headquarters of JSC Russian Helicopters in October last year. According to BGB sources, the BGB will become a three-dimensional force (operating on land, water and air) after the helicopters are purchased.
